Creating Growth with Purpose

Commitment to sustainability at Aliaxis Latin America

Our commitment to the environment and society is reflected in our tangible achievements over the years, demonstrating that it is possible to combine industrial operations with sustainable practices effectively.

A concrete example of our actions towards sustainability is that Aliaxis has made great progress in water conservation, implementing rainwater collection systems and developing technologies that transform grey water into useful resources for non-potable tasks, evidencing a continuous effort to improve operational efficiency and reduce its environmental impact and promoting water conservation.

Another fundamental aspect of our sustainability plan is the promotion of a circular economy through our PVC recycling programs. For example, in Colombia, we have collaborated with local companies to convert discarded materials into “plastic wood”, used to manufacture public and school furniture. This approach not only reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills, but also creates useful products that benefit communities and strengthen our value chain in sustainability.

Renewable energy and emissions reduction

We have made great progress in the transition to renewable energy in our operations, reaching 100% use of clean energy in our facilities in Guatemala, Colombia, Peru and Chile. In Costa Rica, 91% and in Nicoll Uruguay we have achieved 83%.

Recycling programs that foster a circular economy

Our approach also extends to efficient resource management and improved operational efficiency. We implement a PVC recycling program in our operations, where we not only recycle internally, but also collaborate with third parties to convert PVC waste into new useful products such as urban furniture and construction materials. The circular approach allows us to significantly reduce the amount of waste generated and strengthen our value chain in sustainability.

Durman Creating a Better World

In Durman Colombia, for example, we have collaborated with local companies to transform these discarded materials into plastic wood, which is used to manufacture public and school furniture.

I want to be more Sustainable

We have implemented rigorous recycling and reuse policies that have allowed us to recover tons of materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. For example, our “Durman + Sostenible” program in Costa Rica has managed to recover and reintegrate 30 tons of PVC into our production process between 2023 and 2024, significantly reducing our need for virgin raw materials.

Water Conservation and Preservation

On the water conservation front, we have implemented rainwater harvesting systems at our plants, reducing our dependence on potable water sources and minimizing our water footprint.

These initiatives not only demonstrate our commitment to environmental sustainability but also improve our operational efficiency and reduce costs.

Education and Awareness

We firmly believe that education is essential to promoting sustainability. Therefore, we have launched several initiatives to educate our employees, clients and the community at large about the importance of sustainable practices.

These activities include workshops, seminars and programs that help spread essential knowledge about conservation and responsible resource management.

Impact on communities

Through our volunteer program, we have organized numerous activities such as tree planting in Costa Rica and Honduras; and garbage collection on beaches in Nicaragua and Peru, actively contributing to the restoration and protection of natural resources.

We actively participate in reforestation and maintenance of green areas, both inside and outside our facilities, which helps improve air quality, conserve natural habitats and strengthen biodiversity in our communities.

#YoCosecH₂O Program

We launched a community program called #YoCosecH₂O in Costa Rica, which seeks to take advantage of rainwater for the benefit of educational institutions with limited resources. This will allow schools to reuse rainwater for daily non-potable tasks but educate new generations about the importance of water care and environmental sustainability.

Continuous innovation

Innovation is a cornerstone of our sustainability strategy, we develop advanced technologies, which not only respond to current market needs, but also safeguard the environment for future generations.

Water harvesting systems

Water harvesting systems capture rainwater for use in activities that do not require potable water. This solution helps optimize water use and reduces dependence on potable water supplies, increasing the resilience of communities in the face of water scarcity.

Purines, sustainable management of livestock manure

This eco-friendly system collects and processes manure, mixing it with rainwater to create an organic compost that minimizes the need for chemical fertilizers. Through a specialized irrigation system, we ensure the uniform and efficient application of this compost, improving soil health and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and at Aliaxis, we are committed to continuing to innovate and improve our practices. Every step we take toward a greener business reinforces our commitment to protecting the planet and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

With every action, from the use of renewable energy to our recycling and water conservation programs, we are building a legacy of environmental responsibility that goes beyond our operations, positively impacting the communities and markets where we operate.
